3) T Rathnavel (Trichy District Secretary)
4) Lakshmanan (Villupuram North District Secretary)

Note: 5th candidate was Sarava Perumal. He was later replaced by Thangamuthu. Finally Thangamuthu too was asked to withdraw candidature to support CPI's D Raja

There are 6 vacancies in the Rajya Sabha following the end of term for BS Gnanadesikan, ADMK's Maitreyan, Illavarasan, DMK's Tiruchi Siva, Kanimozhi, , CPI's D Raja

CPI was expecting support from Jayalalitha for its party leader D Raja. But the announcement of Jaya has surprised CPI

The 6th seat has to come from opposition. There is buzz that DMK might consider support for DMDK candidate (if any). The possibility of contest (voting in case of more than 6 candidates) cannot be ruled out

LK Advani Resigns from All BJP Posts - Fallout of Narendra Modi Promotion

- Senior BJP Leader L K Advani has quit all party posts today June 10, 2013 (Monday).

- In his resignation letter, L K Advani said "For some time, I have been finding it difficult to reconcile either with the current functioning of the party or the direction in which it is going. I don't have the feeling that this is the same idealistic party creted by Dr. Mukherjee, Pandit Deendayalji and Vajpayeeji, whose sole concern was the country and its people"

- LK Advani added "Most leaders of ours are now concerned just with their personal agendas. I have  therefore decided to quit from three main fora of the party, the National Executive, the Parliamentary Board and the Election Committee"

- The resignation comes in the backdrop of promotion of Narendra Modi as the Campaign head of 2014 polls

- It seems Advani is upset that he has been overruled by the party while announcing Narendra Modi as campaign head

- There was buzz for the past few days with LK Advani skipping party meet at Goa. Official version was the LK Advani was ill

- But media sources say it was last ditch effort to stop Modi from being elevated

- Narendra Modi in his twitter claimed he got blessing of LK Advani on being elevated as Campaign head
