TN New Electricity Tariff Rates - Tamil Nadu EB Price Hike Increased Rate April 1-4-2012 TNERC - Puthiya Min Kattana Uyarvu

Tamilnadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has announced new Electricity Tariff rates today March 30 2012 (Friday). The price hike will come into effect from April 1 2012 (Sunday). 


New Rates


1) House - 
Scenario 1 - If consumption is below 200 units per 2 months
- Upto 100 Units - Rs. 1 per unit 
- 101 to 200 units - Rs. 1.50 per unit
- Additionally Fixed Charge Rs. 10 needs to be paid


Scenario 2 - If consumption is between 201 to 500 units per 2 months
- Upto 200 units - Rs. 2 per unit 
- 201 to 500 units - Rs. 3 per unit
- Additionally Fixed Charge Rs. 15 needs to be paid


Scenario 3 - If you use above 500 units Rates are as follows
- Upto 200 units - Rs. 3 per unit 
- 201 to 500 units - Rs. 4 per unit
- 501 and above units - Rs. 5.75 per unit
- Additionally Fixed Charge Rs. 20 needs to be paid


2) Industry - Rs. 5.50 per unit


3) Commercial Establishments (includes Cinema Theaters)
- Rs. 4.30 per unit upto 100 units
- Rs. 7 per unit above 100 units


4) Private Schools, Colleges 
- Rs. 5.50 per unit (for High Tension HT Connection)
- Rs. 6.50 per unit (for Low Tension LT Connection)


5) Government and Govt-Aided Schools 
- Rs. 4.50 per unit (for High Tension HT Connection)
- Rs. 5 per unit (for Low Tension LT Connection)


6) Lavish Illumination (decorative lighting in weddings, garden parties etc) - Rs. 10.50 per unit


7) Temples 
- Rs. 2.50 per unit upto 120 units
- Rs. 5 per unit above 120 units


8) Temporary Connection - Rs. 9.50 per unit

Tamil Nadu Government has sent proposal to TNERC for rate hike in November 2011. Electricity Board was over Rs. 40,000 Crore Debt. The hike will get Rs. 7842 crores.
