Vishu is celebrated on April 15, 2014 (Tuesday). Vishu, the new year for Malayalis, is celebrated on the first day of Medam month.
At the dawn of Vishu, devotees will wake up and go to Puja room with closed eyes and have darshan of 'Vishukkani' first.
Vishukkani is an arrangement consisting of traditional lamp, rice, lemon, cucumber, flowers, mirror, devotional books, coins in the puja room in front of the deity.
The arrangement will be made in the previous night itself and the first thing to be done on Vishu is to have darshan of Vishukkani and read Ramayanam
Children will take blessings of elders and then burst crackers. Vishu Sadya, the recipe of Vishu, includes Vishu Kanji, Kaalan, Thoran, Avial, Paalada Pradhaman, Erisseri.
Many devotees will go to Temples especially Sabarimala Swami Ayyappan Temple, Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple
