Ugadi - March 21-3-2015 - When is Yugadi in 2015? - Manmatha Nama Samvatsara - Telugu & Kannada New Year

Ugadi is celebrated on March 21, 2015 (Saturday). Yugadi is the new year for Telugu and Kannada speaking people. They follow Lunar Calendar.

The name of the year 2015 - 2016 is 'Manmatha'. Shukla Paksha Pradamai (the day after Amavasya) will be the start of new month and year


Ugadi Pachadi:


To remind themselves that life is mixture of happiness and sorrow and it must be handled with equanimity, a special recipe called 'Pachadi' ('Bevu-Bella' in Kannada) - made up of neem flowers, tamarind, jaggery, raw mango etc - will be taken on Ugadi. 

The Kannada and Telugu speaking people celebrate the festival with great devotion. They will go to temple and offer prayers on this new year day

Meeting of friends, relatives, exchange of greetings, special meal are part of Yugadi celebrations.


Panchanga Sravanam:


The recitation of 'Panchangam' is one of the special events on new year day. The general forecast of the following year will be read and heard by devotees. Hearing classical music, reading their traditional literature are also part of celebration.

Next Year Ugadi: In 2016, Ugadi is celebrated on April 8, 2016 (Friday). The name of the 2016-2017 year is 'Durmukhi'
