Gudi Padwa April 8-4-2016 - When is Gudhi Padva 2016? - Maharashtra Marathi New Year Date Apr 8th

Gudi Padwa is celebrated on April 8, 2016 (Friday). The 1st day of Chaitra Month is celebrated as Gudhi Padva, the Marathi New Year.

Gudhi is made as follows. A yellow or green cloth will be placed at the tip of bamboo stick and will be adorned with sweet, neem leaves, mango leaves, flowers. 

Finally Kalasa will be placed inverted over the cloth. This arrangement is called as Gudhi and it can be seen prominently in the houses of Konkan and Marathi people on the new year day.

The courtyard of houses will be decorated with colourful rangolis and everyone will be dressed in new clothes. 

The celebration begins by taking some neem leaves. The recipes of Gudi Padwa includes Shrikhand, Poori, Puran Poli, Soonth Panak, Chana and Kanangachi Kheer.
