Navratri 2014 Dates - When is Navrathri in 2014? - Navaratri Significance

Navratri 2014 Schedule:


Navrathri Begins on - September 25 (Thursday)
Maha Sashti - September 29, 2014 (Monday)
Maha Saptami - September 30, 2014 (Tuesday)
Maha Ashtami (Durgashtami) on - October 1, 2014 (Wednesday)
Maha Navami (Navratri Last Day) - October 2, 2014 (Thursday)
Vijaya Dasami - October 3, 2014 (Friday)


Navratri in Temple :



Special Shata Chandi Homam, Abhishekam, Alankaram, Suvasini puja, Kanya puja, Laksharchanai and Aarti will be held in temples.

Veda Parayanam, Lalitha Sahasranamam, Sri Devi Mahatmayam, Sri Devi Bhagavatam, Abhirami Andhathi and other hymns of goddess will be chanted, sung and read with great devotion.


Sringeri Sri Sharada Ambal Alankaram:



In Sringeri, Goddess Sharada will bless devotees in various alankaram during Navaratri viz., 1) Jagatprasutika Alankaram (Mother of Universe), 2) Hamsavahini, 3) Vrishabavahini, 4) Mayuravahini, 5) Garudavahini, 6) Kamadhenuvahini, 7) Gajavahini, 8) Mohini alankaram, 9) Simhavahini, 10) Ashvavahini, 11) Veena Saraswathi alankaram, 12) Raja Rajeshwari Alankaram, 13) Indrani, 14) Shakambari Alankaram (done with fruits and vegetables to Goddess Sharadamba at Sringeri on eleventh day)


Golu in South India:


Dolls of god, goddess, and various themes will be arranged beautifully in the pooja room of South Indian houses and Temples. This is called Bommai (doll) Kolu or Golu. 


Kalasam will be kept, Rangoli will be drawn in front of the Golu and Puja will be done on all days of Navratri.  

Relatives, friends, small girls and married women in the neighborhood will be invited to see the golu. Prasad, gifts and kumkums will be given to those who come to see the Golu.


Navratri Prasad:


During Navratri - Sundal, Appam, Poori, Puttu, Sooji, Pongal, Halwa will be offered to Goddess. Sundal is prepared soaking the pulses in water, then cooking and roasting the pulses. List of pulses include - Kondakadalai (Channa), karamani, pasiparuppu, kadalai paruppu, groundnut, beans sundal etc

Navarathri literally means nine nights. Goddess Mother in various forms like Sri Durga, Sri Lakshmi, Sri Saraswathi will be worshipped with great devotion during Navaratri

In 2015, Navratri is from October 13 (Tuesday) to October 21, 2015 (Wednesday);
Maha Shasti - Oct 18, 2015 (Sunday); 
Maha Saptami - Oct 19th 2015 (Monday); 
Maha Ashtami - October 20, 2015 (Tuesday); 
Maha Navami - Oct 21st 2015 (Wednesday) 
Vijayadasami - Oct 22, 2015 (Thursday)

In 2016, Navratri is from October 1 (Saturday) to October 11, 2016 (Tuesday);
Maha Shasti - Oct 7, 2016 (Friday); 
Maha Saptami - Oct 8th 2016 (Saturday); 
Maha Ashtami - October 9, 2016 (Sunday); 
Maha Navami - Oct 10th 2016 (Monday) 
Vijayadasami - Oct 11, 2016 (Tuesday)
